STRATHMORE 1935

Built as a passenger-cargo vessel under yard No 698 by Vickers-Armstrong Ltd, Barrow for the P & O.
04 April 1935 launched as the STRATHMORE, named after a valley from Dumbartonshire to the coast of the North Sea near Stonehaven, Kincardineshire. She was christened by Queen Elizabeth.
Tonnage 23,428 gross, 14,144 net. Dim. 640.3 x 82.3 x 33.7ft.
Powered by six steam turbines, 24,000 shp, twin shafts, speed 20 knots.
Accommodation for 445 first class and 665 tourist class passengers.
15 September 1935 trials.
18 September 1935 delivered to owners.

She was special built for the liner service between the U.K. and Australia.
31 March 1940 requisitioned by the U.K. Ministry of Shipping for service as a troopship.
15 May 1948 returned to owners and reconditioned by the yard of Vickers-Armstrong Ltd., Newcastle.
28 October 1949 again in the service between the U.K. and Australia.
1961 Refitted in a one class vessel.
08 November 1963 sold to John S. Latsis, Greece, renamed in MARIANNA LATSI.
1966 Renamed by owners in HENRIETTA LATSI.
18 April 1967 laid up at Eleusis, Greece.
1969 Sold to Terrestre Marittima S.p.A., Italy for scrapping.
27 May 1969 arrived at La Spezia, Italy.
September 1969 work of scrapping commenced.
