ARKHIMED

Built as a steam screw frigate by the Russian Navy yard in Okhta near St Petersburg for the Imperial Russian Navy.
She was constructed by I.A.Amosov (1800-1878) also depict on the stamp.
23 November 1846 laid down.
20 July 1848 launched as the ARKHIMED (Archimedes).
Displacement 2,400 tons, dim. 54.56 (pp) x 13.35 x 4.54m, draught aft 6.37m.
Powered by a steamengine manufactured by Baird at St Petersburg, speed 6¾ knots.
She was rigged also as a sailing ship.
Armament in 1850, lower deck 6 – 8.75 inch, 14 – 24 pdr short guns, upper deck, 1 – 9.65 inch, 4 – 8.75 inch, 2 – 60 pdr. gun.
Trials September 1848.
After completing a unit of the Baltic Fleet. She was the first Russian screw steam frigate and the design was based on that of the sailing frigate PALLADA.
06 October 1850 she was wrecked off the Danish island Bornholm.
