Built in 1854 as a paddle steamer by A. Normand, Le Havre.
Most probably launched as the HALLOIN under that ex name she appears in Lloyds Register of 1890/91 with the notation that her name has changed in 1882 to CYGNE (Swan).
Tonnage 146 gross, 63 net.
Powered by a 2-cyl. steam engine, manufactured by Mazeline Freres, Havre, 140 nhp.

From her early history I could not find anything.
1890 till 1895 was she owned by Cie Anonyme des Paquebots รก Vapeur entre Le Havre, Caen, Honfleur et Les Ports De La Normandie, who had a working relationship with the Jersey Eastern Railway and later, with the Western Railway Company of France. This three-way partnership meant that a traveller could buy a ticket at the Jersey Eastern Railway office, jump on the train at Snow Hill in St Helier and travel to Gorey pier. From there they could board the CYGNE to Carteret, France and then catch the train direct to Paris โ€“ all on a through ticket.
30 June 1894 she arrived for the first time at Jersey
1897 She underwent a large overhaul

Local newspapers give her owners as:
1894 Was she owned by Steamboat & Omnibus Co. of Rouen, France.
.1895 Was she owned by Rouen Steam Packet Co.
1897 Rouen Co.
1901 Compagnie Francaise de Navigation et de Constructions Navales.
1909 Compagnie Rouennaise de Navigation.

Lloyds Register gives her owners as:
1896 โ€“ 1902 Cie des Bateaux Omnibus Rouen.
1903-1905 Cie Fran. De Nav. & Const. Nav et Satre Reunis, in the 1905 edition is given that the company was in liquidation.
1906 โ€“ 1912 Soc. Des Bateax Omnibus Rouen.

She remained on the service between Jersey and France for the next 18 years and in all this years she had only one major incident when in October 1903 she got engine trouble just off Carteret port, where after the local lifeboat took off the passengers, while her position appeared critical.
14 October 1912 she left the service when on that day she sailed from Gorey bound for Le Havre.
1913 Was broken up in Boulogne.
