Dugout hull (called roko or roka) raised by planking; numerous half ribs and thwarts strengthen the hull; rounded "V" in cross section. Sharp ends; bow curves up to a point, or the top is truncated like the stem. May be decked between the outrigger booms and at the bow. Slender, sharp-ended float supported by 2 widely spaced booms lashed to a rod that pierces the hull and extends slight¬ly outboard. Each boom inserted in a small stanchion in the float. Booms extend out the opposite side, where they are connected by a light pole, the unit serv¬ing as a counterbalance. Steered with a paddle. A rec-tangular sail supported by 2 light spars, one before the sail, the other aft of it. Fore-and-aft sail created by tacking to the end of the forward outrigger boom and sheeting to the end of the after countebalanse boom. Spars stepped into a block along the midline ;various holes used, depending on wind direction. Some employ a quadrilateral lateen-type sail with a short luff on a forward-raking mast.
