A primitive craft of the Sudan stretches of the Nile.
Ambatche tree stems (thus the name of the craft), which are pithy and bulbous, are lashed together to form a boat.
A long pole used for propelling the boat along the shallow stretches of the river was carried together with a small thin like paddle, presumably for use when the water was too deep for the pole.
From the T Broadley collection.
