Built as a passenger vessel under yard no 101 by Mathias-Thesen Werft, Wismar, East Germany for the Russian Government.
25 May 1957 launched as the MIKHAIL KALININ.
Tonnage 4,871 grt, 2,061 nrt, 1,358 dwt, dim. 122.2 x 15.8m, length bpp. 110.0m.
Powered by two 6-cyl MAN D.M.R. K6Z57/80 diesels, 6,192 kW, speed 17 knots.
Accommodation for 333 passengers in one class.
14 July 1958 completed. Homeport Leningrad, managed by the Baltic Shipping Company.
She was the first of 19 sisterships all built by Mathias-Thesen
In service from Leningrad via Helsinki, Stockholm, Copenhagen to London.
Later she made also stops in Gdansk or Le Havre and used for cruises.
Between 1973/74 refitted and modernised at Bremerhaven, air-condition fitted in and received stabilizers.
Then only used for cruises for the German and British markets.
She underwent later also refurbishments in Rijeka, Iceland, then laid up for some time.
1984 Used only for cruises for the Czechoslovakian market.
1991 Laid up in Bremerhaven.
Rebuilt as a floating hotel, for some time used in Helsinki
1994 Laid up in Murmansk.
06 November 1994 arrived under tow at Alang, India for scrapping.
