BENJAMIN BOWRING. Passenger/cargo. Built by Aalborg Waerft, in 1952. Owner

L212'11", 185' pp, B36'9". Dr19'7". B & W diesel, 2 stroke, single acting, 6- cyl, 1,560hp. 12knt. Passengers 12. Reg. Esjeberg. All welded steel hull, thick shell plating over heavy frames half normal spacing. Stem/stern reinforced. Crows nest on foremast equipped with all Nav. instruments and controls for steering engine speed and propeller pitch for operating through ice. Closed shelter deck. Ship painted red.

After initial voyage to Antarctic on charter to American motion picture producer for the movie 'Hell Below Zero' Served the Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition, Falkland Is. Dependencies Survey, British Antarctic Survey and traded with Greenland.
Sold 1967 to Martin Karlsen A/S. Aalesund, Norway, renamed MARTIN KARLSEN. Operated from 1979 by Bowring SS Co, Ltd. In 1981 transferred to Bearcreek Oil & Shipping Co. Ltd. It was the support ship for the 1980 Transglobe Expedition to Antarctica and took Sir Randulph Fiennes Expedition round the World by the Polar Route.
Bought in 1983 by Mr Oliver Shepherd and Mr Ken Cameron to overhaul and offer for Polar Charter work.
