Hellas 1826

HELLAS. Frigate. 64 guns. Greek Navy. Built in 1826 at New York delivered to the Greeks at Egina on 8th December 1826. Accompanied KARTERIA and the Brig NELSON on a raid up the Gulf of Egripos, between Negropont and the mainland, to interrupt Turkish communications. In 1829 two months before the Battle of Lepanto she and KARTERIA under Admiral Cochrane took part in the defeat of the last bastion of the Turkish Army in the Gulf of Corinth. She was blown up by the Greeks to prevent her capture by Russians at Paras on 13th August 1831 - Greece 1971. 3d. SG1172 (LB4/78)
