SMIT ROTTERDAM tug

Built as a tug under yard No 610 by Scheepswerf & Machinefabriek “De Merwede” B.V. at Hardinxveld, Netherlands for Smit Internationale Sleepboot Maatschappij “Smit Rotterdam” B.V., Rotterdam.
05 April 1974 keel laid down.
06 December 1974 launched as the SMIT ROTTERDAM, christened by HM Queen Juliana.
Tonnage 2,273 grt, 377 nrt, 2,686 dwt., dim. 74.75 x 15.68 x 7.60m., length bpp.66.90.
Powered by two 9-cyl. Stork-Werkspoor diesel engines, 13,499 bhp, twin shafts, speed 17 knots.
Bollard pull 180 ton.
15 April 1975 trials and delivered to owners. Homeport Rotterdam.

When delivered she was one of the strongest ocean towing tug of the world.
Managed by Smit Internationale Zeesleep & Bergingsbedrijf B.V. Rotterdam.
17 October 1986 Transferred to Smit-Tak International Ocean Towage & Salvage Co. B.V., under Bahamas registry with homeport Nassau.
June 1992 she towed the American passenger ship UNITED STATES from the USA to Turkey for the removal of asbestos.
January 1997 transferred to Smitwijs Rotterdam C.V., Rotterdam and managed by Smitwijs Towage B.V.
October 1998 renamed SMITWIJS ROTTERDAM. Under Dutch registry.
19 February 2007 transferred to Smitwijs Scheepsholding B.V. Rotterdam, managed by Smit Singapore Pte. Ltd. for Smitwijs Towage B.V.
13 February 2007 sold to Svitzer Ocean Towage B.V. Rotterdam and managed by Svitzer Ocean Towage B.V. Hoofddorp, Netherlands.
June 2007 during a docking by the Keppel Shipyard Ltd., Tuas Yard in Singapore renamed in ROTTERDAM.
12 October 2012 laid up.
January 2013 sold to Rosella Maritime Co, Piraeus, Greece and renamed in GLOBAL DESTINY.
Managed by Diavlos Salvage & Towage Ltd., Piraeus. Under Panama registry.
16 March 2013 she was calling for assistance when she did run out of fuel in a position about 9 miles north west of San Juan, Puerto Rico, she was towed by the tugs TRITON and HONCHO to the anchorage of San Juan and after inspection by the Coast Guard she was allowed to be towed alongside for bunkers.

August 2013 in service, same name and owners. IMO No 7402439.
