In honor of the 100th Anniversary of the first postage, Samoa issued four stamps in August 1977. The 50s value depicts the two-masted schooner ENERGY under sail. Of 72 tons and registered in New Zealand, she was the first ship to transport mail overseas, departing Samoa on 16 October 1877. She carried Samoa’s mail on three occasions between 1877 and 1879.

In the New Zealand Herald of 29 May 1877 is given as follows.
Launch of the schooner ENERGY.
This new vessel, recently built by Messrs Sims and Prown, at their North Shore (Auckland) yard was successfully launched on Friday at five o’clock. The weather was squally, but there was a goodly gathering to see the vessel go off.
The schooner is 72 tons register, or about 100 tons burthen, and is perhaps one of the best this firm has turned off the stocks.
She has been purchased by Captain Savory, who recently sold his schooner FAVOURITE at Samoa.
She was classed by Lloyds as the highest class for seven years.
She was christened by Miss Rountree as the ENERGY.
After delivery used in the trade between New Zealand and the Pacific Islands,
11 May 1880 she sailed from Napier via the East Coast of New Zealand, it is the last report I could find on her in the newspapers.
Her fate I could not find but in 1880 a new schooner ENERGY of 185 tons was delivered to Captain Savory, most probably was she sold or swapped for an larger schooner..
