HERNAN CORTES 1855

HERNAN CORTES. Brigantine. Built in 1855 by Gaspar Ferrer, Canet de Mar, Bacelona.
147Gt. 123Nt. L87'3". B26'8". Dr11'7". Had a wooden hull.
Until 1973 she was the oldest ship in service listed in LRS. Built for Juan Oliver, possibly as a Schooner. Sold in 1882 to Joaquin and Miguel Joben and renamed JOVEN JOAQUIN.
Sold again in 1866 to Manuel Sendon of Rivera Coruna. Very little known of her between 1886-1919 when she appears in LRS as HERNAN CORTES ex CONCHITA ex ANITA registered at Las Palmas owned by C Andres.
A Spanish correspondent, Senor J A Padron Allornos, Canary Is. says she is the only Spanish ship Brigantine rigged.
In 1969 she was owned by Hijos de Abel Matutes Tores SA According to LRS 1970-71 she was owned by Enrique Forniga Clapes, Barcelona. Her rig was changed to a wooden auxiliary Schooner, a 124bhp diesel engine having been installed.
After 120 she years ceased active service. Now used as a floating bar at San Antonio, Ibiza
