EUPHRATES. West Indiaman. Built at Yarmouth in 1778 (evidently in August/September as she was surveyed in September) 250tns (1778 Reg) 247tn (1800 Reg) Had a "Letter of Marque" until 1782. Carried 27 guns. Seven 6pdr. cannons. Twenty carronades (Twelve 9pdr) Her first Master and Owner was Captain Gooch. Maiden voyage London to Jamaica. In 1781. In June or July she captured the French ship ROSALIE.
On 31st January 1782 she picked up the crew of the British ship ANN & ELIZABETH which had foundered at sea.
In 1782 she was sold to Somerville & Co. and in December that same year she sailed from London for Jamaica.
From the 1790's until 1805 she traded from the Clyde to Jamaica.
Acquired by Sterling & Co before 1800. In LR of 1807 her owner is given as Hyde & Co. She was repaired in 1803 having her top deck and topsides renewed - this suggests she was sold in 1803. In LR of 1809 she is marked as "Captured"
