In the Soviet Union two Sever-2 class manned research submersibles of Project 1825, together with their mother-vessels were built in 1970-1972. for the Ministry of Fisheries in Moscow.
The SEVER-2 and SEVER-2 Bis submersibles were built at Leningrad by the New Admiralty shipyard..
The submersible depict on the stamp is the SEVER-2 which was carried by the ODISSEY a special built research trawler to carry the SEVER-2.
She was stowed on the port side of the ship in a maintenance bay and was launched and recovered on her port side. The maintenance bay was equipped with sliding doors to provide all weather maintenance.
It was launched in the water with dual working cranes, and launching could be performed up to sea-condition 5.
The SEVER-2 was used for search and recording of fishery objects and prediction and estimation of fish stock. Sample of water, soil and benthos on the sea-bottom. Underwater tele-shooting and photography.
SEVER-2 built under yard No 500 as a research submersible
1968 Laid down and completed on 22 December 1970.
Displacement 39.9 tonnes and weight 38.4 tonnes, dim. 12.40 x 2.67 x 4.17m.
Powered by two electrical units via rechargeable batteries, speed 3.5 knots.
Can stay under water; during working time 9 hours and when dead in the water for 72 hours.
Crew 3-5 men.
January 1969 was she transported to the Black Sea for test diving up to 2,135 metres.
1970 Used for test diving.
From 1970 till 1977 on board of the research trawler ODISSEY she made 39 dives in the Barents Sea and spent 208 hours under water.
1978 She made an other three dives in the Barents Sea and spent 10 hours under water.
1980 In use in the Black Sea and made 10 dives and was for 32 hours under water.
1981 and 1982 in service in the Antarctic and South Eastern Pacific.
1983 For research on plankton in the Atlantic Ocean, she made 75 dives and was under water for 387 hours.
1984 Used in the North western Pacific made 25 dives and was 136 hours under water.
1986 Was transferred to the research trawler IKHTIANDR a sister of the ODISSEY, then used in the North east of the Atlantic Ocean where she made 42 dives and was for 251 hours under water.
1989 In the Atlantic Ocean were she made 54 dives and spent 275 hours under water.
The IKHTIANDR arrived on 02 October 1998 at Aliaga for scrapping and I believe the SEVER-2 was kept ashore in Russia.
1991 After the collapse of the USSR the SEVER-2 was kept in Sevastopol, Ukraine.
2001 Transferred to the State Oceanarium of Ukraine in Sevastopol.
2011 On the pier, without batteries.
2014 She is for sale, 70% ready for service.
