Britannia HMS 1904

Battleship of 16,350 tons with 4-12", 4-9.2", 10-6", 14-12 pdr guns, built Portsmouth dockyard 10.12.1904. During WW1 served with 3rd Battle Squadron and 9th cruiser Squadron. On 9th November 1918 steaming towards Gibraltar in Company with two destroyers, attacked by UB 50 off Cape Trafalgar. After firing 2 torpedoes that missed the U-boat fired a third that struck amidships and exploded a quantity of cordite. BRITANNIA sank 3 hours later with a loss of 40 crew. The Albert Medal was awarded to Lt. H. A. May of the Royal Maine Light Infantry for saving life. BRITANNIA was the last major ship of RN lost in WW1.
