SHAMROCK III
On 12 February St Pierre et Miquelon issued a stamp in the trawlers series, this stamp shows the SHAMROCK III one of the last French traditional trawlers fishing in the waters of St Pierre.
Built as a fishing vessel under yard No 162 by Scheepswerf Beliar Crighton, Oostende, Belgium for André Ledun, Fécamp, France.
15 December 1956 launched as the SHAMROCK III fishing No F 1146.
Tonnage 947 grt, 407 nrt,935 dwt. Dim. 70.92 x 10.83m., length bpp. 64.84 m
Powered by one Deutz diesel engine 1,500 hp, speed 13.5 knots.
March 1957 delivered, homeport Fécamp.
18 March 1957 arrived at Fécamp and sailed for her first fishing trip on 28 March.
She was one of the last traditional trawlers built for the cod fishing, which was fishing in the waters around St Pierre et Miquelon and the Grand Banks. I am wondering if she was fishing with a trawl net or with lines?
She made that year two fishing voyages under command of Captain Louis Villard, command was later taken over by Captain Jean Recher.
She made her last fishing voyage from 28 May to 04 August 1980 under command of Captain Recher. Ledun was still the owner.
In 1977 was she used during the shooting of the French film Le Crabe-Tambour made after a romantic novel. The film was made at Saint Pierre et Miquelon.
07 May 1982 arrived by the scrapyard of J. Bakker & Zn. at Bruges, Belgium for scrapping.
