Built as a cargo vessel under yard No 809 by Deutsche Werft, Finkenwarder, Germany for Deutsche Africa-Linien GmbH & Co, (DAL) Hamburg, Germany.
25 March 1966 launched as the TABORA, five sisters.
Tonnage 9,684 grt, 5,663 net, 13,550 dwt. Dim. 155.9 x 20.6 x12.1m, length bpp.144.5m.
Powered by one MAN 6-cyl. diesel engine, 9.600 bhp, speed 18 knots.
Crew 44, accommodation for 12 passengers.
Loading and discharging gear, one 150 ton derrick hold 3, one 70 ton derrick and 16 - 6 ton derricks.
July 1965 completed, homeport Hamburg.
She was the first of a six unit series of five holds fast cargo vessels special built for the service between Germany and the west and east coast of Africa. Fitted out with reefer spaces and edible oil tanks.
1971 Under South Africa flag and owned by a subsidiary of DAL the Cape Continent Shipping Co. Pty. Ltd, at Cape Town not renamed.
1974 Sold to Cia Naviera Marasia SA, Barcelona, Spain renamed in ARTICO.
1965 Sold to Cenargo Navigation Ltd, (managed by Triport Ferries), Hamilton, Bermuda and renamed MERCHANT PROVIDENCE.
26 September 1983 she sailed from Avonmouth, U.K., with on board 4,000 tons of equipment and material, and a work force of 24 men. Thirty-two days later she anchored at east Cove, Falkland Islands, where they would construct an airport at Mount Pleasant. The ship was anchored close to the shore and connected to it by a Bailey bridge to serve as a floating jetty for the duration of the work. She also provided satellite communication with the contractor’s main office in Great Britain.
1986 Sold to Truck & Machinery Sales Ltd., Hamilton and renamed in PROVIDE.
1987 Sold to Uniship (Hellas) Shipping & Trading SA, Kingstown, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines. Renamed in SAGRES.
16 September 1987 arrived at Gadani Beach, Pakistan for scrapping and was scrapped by Sadaf Enterprise.
