SOUTH AUSTRALIA KA 8 was built by S.E. Ward & Son boatyard in Cove Harbor, Western Australia for the South Australia Challenge for the Defense 1987 Ltd., representing the Royal Southern Yacht Squadron, Port Adelaide, Australia.
Designed by Ben Lexcen.
March 1985 launched as the SOUTH AUSTRALIA KA 8.
Displacement 25.4 ton, dim. 19.90 x 3.72 x 2.71m. (draught), length on waterline 13.77m.
Sail area 160.54 m².
She took part in the 1986 World 12-metre Championship, finishing ninth.
She competed in the 1987 America’s Cup defender series, but was withdrawn during Series C in December 1986. She was a fast light wind design but did not perform very well in the stormy and rough seas off Fremantle.
1993 Sold to Stemungsbaden Yacht Club of Sweden, Stemungsund, Sweden and renamed NEW SWEDEN.
1998 Sold to South Australia (GB) Ltd. (Elisabeth Marlin), Saint Tropez, France and renamed SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
2005 Sold to S.F.A. (Jean-Claude Perdriel), Antibes, France, not renamed.
2014 Is reported that she is sailing and owned by Marcus Lubken, Antibes, France.
