CANAWAIMA ferry

Suriname issued in 1998 two stamps when the ferry CANAWAIMA came in service on the Corentyne River between Suriname and French Guiana.
She was built after the Surinam Government received funding from the European Union for the ferry.
Built as an inland waterway ro-ro ferry by United Suriname Holding, Paramaribo, Suriname for the Suriname Government.
Launched as the CANAWAIMA.
Tonnage 500 grt, 40 dwt, dim.?

Capacity for 20 cars, cargo and passengers.
1996 Completed.

Due to delay on the infrastructure she at least was put in service on 12 November 1998 between Southdrain, Nickerie District, Suriname across the Corentyne River to Moleson Greek in Guyana.
The passage takes about 25 minutes.
2015 In service, same name and owner. IMO No 9139622.
