SMAKKEJOLLE

2-SMAKKEJOLLE: Used in Sydfynske Øhav, Denmark, is a lightly built boat used for small-scale fishing, for ferrying, and as pilot boat. Originated hundreds of years ago; existed until the 1930s, but lately some has been built. Clinker-built; double ended; low freeboard often had removable washboards. Some had a wet well to keep the fish fresh. Stem and sternpost curved; often a slight gripe to stem; keel might extend beyond the sternpost. Some entirely open, others decked forward and aft with side decks forming a long, oval cockpit. Outboard rudder; tiller. Sailed with 1 -3 rectangular spritsails, boomed out at times; jib might run to a reefing bowsprit. Mast short unstayed, and stepped through thwarts or were clamped to them. One with 2 masts was called 2-smakkejolle a 3 masted boat was called 3-smakkejolle. Also rowed with one man to an oar on different benches. Some motorized.
Crew 2- 6.
Reported lengths 5 – 8.8m, beam 1.6-2.8m, depths 0.54 – 0.97m.
