100th Anniversary of the Kieler Woche

The stamp was issued for the “100th Anniversary of the Kieler Woche”, it shows stylized sailing yachts which take part in a race.
On July 23, 1882, sailors from Kiel and Hamburg organized the first major regatta on the Kieler Fjord. 20 boats went to the start. Today (1982), more than 3,000 sailors from many countries come to Kiel every year for this sailing event.
