In the tea races the great rivals of “Kate Carnie” and “Fiery Cross” were the Aberdeen-built “Robin Hood” and “Friar Tuck”, vessels which were considered the Sir Lancelots of their day, although it was a short one. The “Friar Tuck” was wrecked on the Coast of Cornwall, when homeward bound in the sixties ; her cargo floated ashore, and the prime China tea which was retailed through the county by the Cornish wreckers will long be remembered there. 1864 November 22 “Robin Hood Sunk off Dungeness in a collision with the ship Spirit of Ocean.
The design stamps is made after painting of Samuel Walters. His comment: “The British ship Robin Hood (1856-64) passing her consort Friar Tuck (1857) at sea in heavy weather. Portrayed closehauled with reefed topsails, Robin Hood is seen from the less usual windward view, with the tack of the main course temporarily clewed up. Friar Tuck runs before the wind under a fine spread of canvas, just having let fly her fore tapgallant sheets; probably observing an oldfashioned form of salutation. Both vessels were built on clipper lines, by Hall of Aberdeen and display the James Beazley house flag of Liverpool. Consistently fast, Robin Hood on one occasion covered 364 nautical miles in 24 hours'”
