PERSIAN HMS 1840

Built as a brig-sloop built by Pembroke Dry-dock, Wales for the Royal Navy.
31 December 1835 ordered.
May 1838 keel laid down.
07 October 1839 launched as HMS PERSIAN one of the Acorn class.
Tonnage 483 ton (bm), dim. 32.0 x 10.2 x 4.5m., draught 3.6m, length of keel 25.2m.
Armament: 2 × 32-pdr guns; 14 × 32-pdr carronades.
Crew 110-130.
24 April 1840 completed.
23 February 1840 commissioned, under command of acting Cmdr. William Henry Quiand

After completing sailed for the west coast of Africa, where she took eight slavers till 1843
Returned to the U.K. and paid off on 13 August 1843, in Devonport.
January 1941 till February 1942 at Plymouth where she underwent repairs at was fitted out.
14 December 1844 recommissioned under Cmdr. Henry Coryton for the North America and West Indies stations.
14 March 1848 paid off.
07 July 1849 recommissioned at Woolwich again for North America and West Indies.
1857 Stationed in the Cape of Good Hope
11 July 1861 paid off in Sheerness.
Sold to Castle & Beech and broken up at Charlton in March 1866.
