THETIS is given in Spanish as TETIS fregate 1793

She was built as a wooden frigate in 1793 at Ferrol, Spain for the Spanish Navy.
06 August 1793 launched as the TETIS, the name THETIS given in British sources is wrong.
Tonnage 583 ton, dim. 44.05 x 11.70 x 5.71m., length of keel 39,61m, draught 5.85m.
Armament: 26 – 12pdrs, 8 – 8pdrs and 6 obusiers of 3 pdrs.
03 October 1793 commissioned, under command of Captain Don Joaquin Mozo.

26 April 1794 she left Ferrol bound for Cartagena, South Coast of Spain.
16 May 1794 she sailed from there again for the Cantabrian Sea, the North coast of Spain.
During the summer of 1794 used for patrolling the waters of the Cantabrian Sea with the squadron of Brigadier Don Vicente Ferrer which consisted of the INTRÉPIDE, the frigate CERE, and SAN VICENTE FERRER ships that belongs to the squadron of Don Francisco de BORJA.
At the end of September 1794, she was in Santander.
03 November 1794 she arrived in Ferrol, where Commander MOZO disembarked the TETIS.
19 March 1795 set sail from Cartagena to transport recruits, funds, and gunpowder to Barcelona.
31 March 1795 under command of the frigate captain Don Luis Uriarte y Borja she entered Malaga with the capture of the Dutch brig JUANA GUILLERMINA (not a Dutch name).
July 1795 she sailed from Cartagena to take a cruise on the African coast, when the voyage was completed she returned to Cadiz and later entered Cartagena in November 1795.
04 August 1796 she left with the squadron of Marquis of Socorro bound for the Caribbean.
06 August she parted from the squadron with the SANTA ELENA and sailed to Puerto Rico arriving in early September, thereafter she sailed for Cadiz.
October 1796 under command of frigate captain Don Juan de Mendoza she set sail from Cadiz to Havana to take the new governor and captain-general of the squadron lieutenant general Count of Santa Clara, taking this post over from Don Luis de las Casas.
05 December 1796 during the night she arrived in Havana,
02 February 1797 she captured together with the frigate SANTA PERPETUA in the waters of the Antilles the British packet DIANA which was armed with 10 guns.
06 June 1797 sailed from Havana with the squadron under command of the captain of the ship, Don Tomas de Ugarte commander of the ship SAN LORENZO. TETIS was under command of the frigate captain Don Juan de Mendoza.
17 June 1798 she arrived at Veracruz from Havana under command of Don Juan de Mendoza with a load of tobacco, paper, and other products, accompanied by the frigate JUNO in March 1799. After her arrival in Havana, she was careened on the Havana shipyard
19 July she arrived again in Veracruz under command of Mendoza with the frigate ANFITRITE. After loading supplies, she sailed back to Havana together with the ANFITRITE to Havana.
17 October 1799 she was captured near Finistere by a British squadron when she was underway from Havana with a fortune on cargo together with the frigate SANTA BRIGADA.

Furthermore, the Spanish frigates were bought by the Royal Navy. However, they never seemed to have served in the Royal Navy again. Presumably, they were used in port service until they were demolished. (Naval History of Great Britain, volume II page 357.)
