THORBECKE (1874-1889)- Dutch clipper

The composite-built clipper “Thorbecke” was the first of seven ships called “Torbecke”, all built by Company of the Meursing Brothers on their shipyard at Nieuwendam, Amsterdam. This ship was sold in 1876 and re-named “Sindoro”. It went over into Norvegian hands after 1888, only to be given up one year later after it suffered irreparable damage. Its dimensions: Length: 53,78m; Width:10,39m; Weight: 826 tons.
Clipper is named after Johan Thorbecke, who was a Dutch statesman of a liberal nature.
