KUNLONG AG 600 AMPHIBIOUS AIRCRAFT

Post by aukepalmhof » Wed Dec 01, 2021 1:27 am

She is an amphibious aircraft 36.9 m long, has a wingspan of 38.8 m and can lift up to 53.5 tons in the air. And it can actually fly. Manufacturer Avic proved this on Sunday (December 24, 2017). At 9:38 a.m., the AG600 with the name Kunlong took off from Zhuhai Jinwan Airport. The largest flying boat of the present successfully completed its maiden flight. To be able to start on the water, the AG600 needs a 1800 m long, 200 m wide water surface. The water must also be at least 2.5 m deep. A 1,500 m long and 35 m wide runway is sufficient for the Chinese special aviator on land. Manufacturer Avic says options have been drawn for 17 AG600s so far. The giant flying boat was primarily developed for the domestic market.

According to Chinese state media, the first flight of the Avic AG600 took around 64 minutes. The four-engine turboprop aircraft flew at an altitude of 3000 meters. The aircraft was presented to the public for the first time in July.
The Avic AG600 is designed for fighting forest fires as well as for search and rescue missions and can hold twelve tons of extinguishing water or 50 shipwrecked people in these roles. But the AG600 is also suitable for civilian missions such as freight transport and passenger flights in coastal regions. In addition, the "Kunlong" is to be used for military surveillance of the sea area. Thanks to a range of 4,500 kilometers, their radius of action could, for example, extend over a large part of the South China Sea.
With the Avic AG600, China is developing the largest amphibious aircraft of today. But work stood still for about a month. Because the location for construction and test flights is in the province of Hubei, where the Covid-19 pandemic began at the beginning of the year. In April 2020, the state aircraft manufacturer Avic resumed test flight operations of the flying boat. On July 26, 2020, the program reached an important milestone: the AG600 took off and landed at sea for the first time. The approximately 30-minute test flight took place on the Yellow Sea in front of the city of Qingdao, which is in the east of the People's Republic. A trial campaign in the South China Sea is planned for the end of the year.
