Built as a four-masted steel-hulled auxiliary sailing cargo vessel by Petrovski Ship Building Co., at Reval for the Reval Shipping Co Ld. at Reval Estonia.
On 6 December 1919, a ceremonial keel-laying took place at the Petrograd Shipyard. Tonnage 567 gross, dim. 166.6 x 28.7 x 12.1ft.
Rigging topsail schooner.
Fitted out with an auxiliary oil engine. Hp.
5 August 1922, completed under the name LÄÄNEMAA after a sea trial was made.
Homeport Reval, Estonia.

On June 9, a new postage stamp will appear in Estonia depicting the motor sailing ship LÄÄNEMAA. One of the most remarkable ships in the history of the Estonian merchant fleet started sailing at sea 100 years ago. It was the first modern watercraft with a steel hull built in Estonia.
The ship was designed by Lieutenant Captain Nikolai Link, a shipbuilding engineer, according to the highest-class requirements of the German insurance association Lloyd. The keel-laying was ceremoniously laid on December 6, 1919, at the Peter Shipyard (formerly and later the Noblessner), and the ship was finally seaworthy by August 5, 1922, when a sea trial was made. In 1922, two more steel sailboats with steel hulls were completed in the shipyard: HARJU COUNTY and VIRUMAA.
During the particularly rough winter of 1928, the ship was hit by an onslaught of ice pressure and was so badly damaged that it was feared it would perish. The ship’s repair works in Germany lasted for six weeks, after which the LÄÄNEMAA became a three-masted motor ship.
1930 Sold to Tallinn Shipping Co., Tallinn, not renamed
In 1947, a new 400-horsepower main engine was installed on the ship at the Loksa ship repair factory, and two masts and three cargo beams were retained.
In the years 1954–1955, the ship was repaired at Leningrad: a new stern structure was installed, the unloading and loading system was completely replaced, and radio and electrical navigation equipment was installed.
The ship was decommissioned in 1970. (Miramar gives that after 1945 she did not more named in Lloyds Registry.)
The stamp was designed by Roman Matkiewicz and has a face value of 90 cents, which is suitable for inland mail in Estonia.
