KOTOR view around 1657

Post by aukepalmhof » Wed Mar 15, 2023 8:37 pm

This stamp shows us a panorama view of Kotor around 1657 and was designed after a print made by Pierre Mortier
The town is a coastal town in the Bay of Kotor on the Adriatic Sea.
In the bay is a 17th-century sailing .merchant ship and a few smaller vessels of which I have not any details.
Due to her good port Kotor (Italian Cattaro) and her extensive maritime trade, the city gained importance for the Adriatic region in the middle Ages. Kotor came in 1420 under the sovereignty of Venice till 1797, when she became a part of Austria. It is now a town in Montenegro.
