Post by aukepalmhof » Tue Jun 13, 2023 4:27 am

This stamp shows us a fishing vessel used in the tuna fisheries around the Marshall Island. Have not much information on the vessel, mostly used in this waters were longline fishing, seine or pole vessels to catch the tuna. Seine fishing vessels have mostly a by-boat (skiff) which is steaming the seine-net round, the stamp shows also a by-boat, that the vessel depict on the stamp is most probably a seine fishing vessel

The Republic of the Marshall Islands, mostly catching bigeye, and yellowfin tuna, only a few are under Marshall Island flag and registry, other licensed vessels are under the flag of China, Japan, and Taiwan.
The catch is exported to markets in the U.S., China and Canada, and frozen tuna and incidental market species are exported to China and marketed locally.
