Court Sivertsen (Norwegian Kurt Sivertsen), in Italy known as Curzio Suffrido Adelborst (December 16, 1622, Brevik - November 5, 1675, Copenhagen) - a famous 17th-century sailor, admiral, of Norwegian origin, who served in the Netherlands , Venetian and Danish fleets. He bore the honorary title "Adelaar" (or "Adeler"), which means "Eagle" in Dutch. Cort Syvertsen was born on December 16, 1622 in Brevik in Norway. At the age of fifteen, he entered the naval service in the Netherlands, with the rank of cadet, under the command of Admiral of the Fleet of the Dutch Republic Cornelius Martinson Tromp. A little later, Adelborst Sivertsen went into the service of the Venetian Republic, which was at that time waging war with the Ottoman Empire. Already in 1645, Cort Sivertsen was promoted to the rank of captain and especially distinguished himself in the naval battle of Paros on July 10, 1651, and then in the battle with the Turks at the Dardanelles on May 13 and 14, 1654. In 1660, Sivertsen was elevated to the rank of lieutenant general by the Venetian Republic.
The fame of the brave officer thundered throughout Europe and almost all Christian naval powers vied with each other to attract him under their banners with tempting offers. Therefore, in 1661, Cort Sivertsen left Venice and went first to the Netherlands. During his second stay in the Netherlands, Cort Sivertsen received the honorary title Adelaar for his extraordinary speed of action at sea, under which he was then promoted to the nobility in Denmark. In 1663 he left Dutch service and, as an admiral and member of the admiralty council, became the head of the naval forces of the Kingdom of Denmark, which he remodeled on the model of the Royal Netherlands Navy. In 1675, the king of Denmark and Norway, Christian V, entrusted him with the main command over the united naval forces of Denmark in the war with the Swedes, but on November 5, 1675, Admiral Sivertsen suddenly died, before hostilities began.
