BONITA reefer vessel 1970

The Guernsey Post issued in 2024 a set of stamps for Calebrating 200 years of the RNLI.
The 88p stamp shows us the lifeboat SIR WILLIAM ARNOLD with in the background on the right the cargo vessel BONITA.

Built under yard no 68 as a cargo/reefer vessel by Drammen Slip & Verksted, Drammen, Norway for F.M. Atlantic Frigomaris Kuhlschiffreederei, Hamburg.
01 July 1970 launched as the BERINGCORE.
Tonnage 6682 grt, 8965 dwt, dim.140.72 x 18.04 x 11.64m.
One 9.Cyl. Sulzer diesel engine hp?, one shaft, speed 23 knots.
September 1970 completed.

1975 Renamed by owners in BERING.
1975 Sold to Bonita Ocean SS Co. Ltd., Monrovia, renamed BONITA.
1979 Sold to Naviera del Pacifico C.A. Guayaquil, Ecuador, not renamed,

14 December 1981 foundered in the English Channel with the loss of 1 person.

Modern Shipping Disasters 1963-1987 by Norman Hooke gives on the rescue:

When1 on a voyage from Hamburg to Costa Rica carrying a cargo of fertiliser, the Ecuadorean motor vessel BONITAsank in the English Channel in lat. 50 05N long. 02 31W, on December 14 1981 after having developed a serious list during storm force 10 weather conditions the previous day. One crewman died but the 36 others with some wives and their children were safely rescued from two lifeboats by helicopters and the St Peter lifeboat, although many were found to be suffering from hypothermia.
