The Odón de Buen is the largest and most advanced oceanographic research vessel in the Spanish scientific fleet. Designed for multidisciplinary marine research on a global scale, it belongs to the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). Built at the Armón Shipyards in Vigo, The ship was launched in 2023 and it entered service in late 2024.

• Beam: 17.8 meters wide.
• Total crew capacity: Accommodates up to 58 people on board.
• Scientists: Houses up to 39 researchers simultaneously.
• Crew members: Designated space for 19 mariners.
Propulsion and Polar Capability
• Icebreaker category: Capable of navigating polar regions and breaking up to 1.5 meters of ice.
• Dual-fuel engines: Two of its four generators can alternate between conventional fossil fuels and liquefied natural gas (LNG).
• Silent design: Internationally certified to mitigate acoustic impact on marine fauna.
