Built as a cruise vessel under yard No. 1323 by Kvaerner Masa Yard, Åbo for Crystal Cruises, Nassau, Bahamas. (A subsidiary of a major Japanese shipping company, Nippon Yusen Kaisha.)
05 January 1995 floated out.
Tonnage 51.044 grt, 20.201 net, 4.500 dwt., dim. 238.01 x 30.20 x 7.60m. (draught).
Powered; Diesel electric, by six Sulzer 9ZAL40S diesel engines, geared to six generators to two electro engines, (38.880 kW), twin screws speed 22 knots.
Passenger accommodation for 960, maximum 1010, crew 530.
18 April 1995 delivered to owners.
The passenger accommodation is of the highest class with much use of quality wood, brass and sumptuous furnishing. She is built for world wide cruising.
21/22 April she made a promotional call at Tilbury on the River Thames on her delivery voyage to New York.
03 May 1995 named at New York, she was christened by Angela Landsbury as CRYSTAL SYMPHONY.
Thereafter used for her first commercial cruise via the Panama Canal to the west coast of the USA. Then used for cruising on the west coast of the USA to Alaska and Canada before commencing on a 96 day world tour via the Far East and Australasia.
Over subsequent years mostly during world tours she made calls in Australia and New Zealand.
