Venezuela, in 1947, issued a number of stamps honouring her Mercantile Marine. The ship depicted on all the stamps is the Republica de Venezuela. She has two sisters, the Republica de Colombia, and Republica del Ecuador. They are owned by the Flota Mercante Grancolombiana S.A. All are under the Colombian flag. The Republica de Venezuela was originally the Magnus Hitch.
Built by Globe SB Co. Superior, Wisconsin for US Maritime Admin. 380Gt, L323’9”, B50’1”, Dr26’5”. Busch-Sulzer diesel. 1700bhp, 10.5knts. Purchased 1947 by Flota Mercante Grancolombiana, Bogota. Renamed 1947. Later under control of Cia Anonima Venezolana de Nav. Sold 1960 to Oceania Nac Co, Hong Kong, renamed DAIKO. Sold 1962 to Daiwa Kaiun KK, Osaka renamed DAIKO MARU. Sold again in 1971 to Kuysan KK Japan for breaking up.
