The two stamps, issued by Uruguay, show the cruiser Montevideo (with the gunboat 8 September astern of her on the second stamp). The Montevideo was built at Elswick in 1888 as the Italian Dogali. Her displacement is 2,020 tons, length 250ft., beam 3711., draught 14.5ft., main armament six 6in. and nine 57mm. guns, and speed 19.6 knots. She cost £170,000.
