Roumania issued four photogravure stamps in 1949 in honour, and for the benefit of the Roumanian Navy League. They depict the four sections of shipping under the Roumanian flag, all of the designs being based on paintings by the Roumanian marine artist Stiubei, a naval officer. The 8 + 8 lei denomination shows the steamer Romana Mare a vessel of the NFR (Navigation Fluviala Romana). She was a vessel taken over from Hungary as a result of the First World War and was built at Budapest in 1900. Her dimensions are 19711 x 2611 x 511 she carries 800 passengers and 20 tons of cargo, and her compound engines give her a speed of 121/2 knots.
