An issue of Panama shows the 20,000-ton U.S. liner Resolute in the Gaillard Cut. Originally named William Oswald when completed in 1920 at Bremen for the Hamburg-Amerika Line, she became the Brabantia when handed over to Holland. Under the Versailles Treaty she was granted to America and was renamed Resolute, by the United American Lines. The steamer were renamed by the Americans after a yacht which had successfully defended the Americas Cup. The Resolute shown in United American Lines colours on the stamp. She returned to the German flag in 1926, and in 1935 was sold to Italy and became the troopship Lombardia. She was burned out and sunk in a raid on Naples on August 4.1943.
