The cargo ship which has appeared on the stamps of Nauru since 1924, is the old Century of the Australian Steamships (Pty), Ltd. (Howard Smith Co.) She was built at Newcastle in 1905, a steel single-screw steamer with a. gross tonnage of 4,313 on dimensions 360ft x 47.9ft x 28ft.

Built as a cargo vessel under yard No. 133 by Northumberland Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. New Castle, U.K. for Howard Smith Co., Ltd, Melbourne, Australia.
Launched under the name CENTURY.
Tonnage 4.218 gross, 2.759 net, dim. 360.0 (bpp) x 47.9 x 28.1ft.
Powered by one triple expansion steam engine 330 nhp., speed 8.5 knots. One screw.
Feb. 1906 completed.

Sometimes used as a phosphate carrier from Nauru. She is not named in the article on the Phosphate Islands carriers published in Sea Breezes 2001.
1913 Sold to Australian Steamship Ltd. (Howard Smith Co. Ltd., mgrs.)
1927 Sold to G.N. Stathatos, Ithaca, Greece, and renamed NARKISSOS.
4th Quarter 1938 broken up by Heyghen Fréres, at Gent, Belgium.
