On April 30th 1962, the United States Government authorised a special commemorative stamp for the 150th anniversary of Louisiana's statehood. The striking design shows a riverboat of the period and was drawn by Mr. Norman Todhunter who had this to say about the sidewheel steamer depicted. The riverboat is a composite of some packets of that era. I utilised pictures of eight boats which I procured from the New York Public Library Collection as I did not want my riverboat to be identifiable, and thus used characteristics of these various boats."
