She was built and designed as a wooden packet ship by Donald MCKay at Boston, Mass. for account of Captain William and Francis Skiddy, but before delivered most of the shares were bought by Messrs. Grinnell Minturn & Co., New York .
09 September 1846 launched under the name NEW WORLD.
Tonnage 1.404 gross, dim. 187.4 x 40.5 x 27.6ft.
Ship rigged.

She was built for the packet service across the North Atlantic, and after delivery put in the service of the Swallow Tail Line between New York and Liverpool.
Captain Skiddy sailed her to New York, and from there to Liverpool in seventeen days, after arrival the Prince Consort honored her with a visit.
Later Capt Kinght took over command.
Later used in the packet service between New York and London.
Before she was taken out service of the Swallow Tail Line, Capt. Arthur Champion and W.C. Hammond commanded the ship.
1882 Given as owned by C.W. Bertaux, New York and under command of Capt. Mitchener.
1882 The last time she is mentioned in the registry.
