MONA'S QUEEN (V) 1971

On this stamp are three vessels depict, the QUEEN ELISABETH 2, MONA’S QUEEN (5) and the small ferry WOODCHURCH on the river Mersey in the background is Liverpool.

Built as a ferry under yard No 533 by Ailsa Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., Troon, England for the Isle of Man Steam Packet Co. Ltd., Douglas, Isle of Man.
22 December 1971 launched under the name MONA’S QUEEN (5).
Tonnage 2.998 gross, 653 dwt., dim. 104.45 x 16.74 x 3.62.
Powered by two 10-cyl. Crossley-Pielstick engines, 10.000 bhp, twin pitch propellers, speed 22 knots.
She is equipped with two rudders and a bow rudder. One bow-thruster of 500 hp.
Accommodation for 1600 passengers and 55 crew. Can carry around 100 cars.
June 1972 delivered to owners. She was the first diesel ship built for the company. Building cost £2.100.000.

She was a side-loading car ferry, the car loaded through side doors positioned at various levels on either side of the ship.
09 June 1972 made her maiden voyage from Liverpool to Douglas.
1985 A merger to place between the Steam Packet and the Manx Line, and she was thereafter used mainly during the holiday season or chartered out.
From 04 September 1989 till 15 September 1989 chartered by Sealink for the service between Portsmouth and Cherbourg.
18 September 1989 till 22 September 1989 used in the service of Sealink between Weymouth and Cherbourgh.
25 September 1989 arrived again at Douglas and again in the service between Isle of Man and the U.K.
03 September 1990 withdrawn from service and laid up at the Victoria South Dock, Birkenhead, offered for sale.
Many plans and ideas for her future came and went and noting happened until she was sold.
December 1995 sold to Manila-Banton-Romblon-San Augustin Shipping Lines (M.B.R.S.) renamed MARY THE QUEEN with homeport San Lorenzo, Honduras.
04 December 1995 without any dry-docking after her lengthy lay-up she sailed from Liverpool, and via Malta for bunkering (14th), Port Said (17th), Djibouti (25th) and Colombo (01/1996), Singapore (6th) all this ports she has to call for bunkers.
10 January 1996 she arrived at Manila, Philippines after a passage 37 days and with a distance of 9.700 miles, with an average speed of 15.3 knots.

After arrival in Manila she was internal rebuild, and from a day ferry she was fitted out as a night ferry.
External the boat deck and bridge wings were covered, and several lifeboats removed.

1996 Initially employed on the Manila to Boracay service but also used in other services of the company.

09 February 2004 on a voyage from San Augustin to Manila she got on fire off Sibuyan Island, the fire can be extinguished within an hour.

2007 http://www.equasis.org gives: Owned and managed by M.B.R.S. Lines Manila, Philippines. IMO No. 7127493 in service and under Philippine flag.

Sold by MBRS Lines Inc. Philippines to Indian ship-breakers and she beached Alang 01 September 2008.
