Gehazi

Dubai, an Arab state on the Gulf has issued quite a number of new stamps in its short history, including one showing the port of New York, the stamp being 3'/4 in. in length by 11/2 in. in depth, which I think must rate it as the largest stamp to show a ship. Unfortunately only one ship can be seen in the docks and it may be difficult to identify. I always found New York to be a much busier port than that. A stamp issued by Dubai for the Red Cross centenary shows a local gehazi. The artist has depicted the Red Crescent on the gehazi's sail, which of course is a bit of artist's licence; its owner has probably never seen such a device, certainly not on his craft. Be that as it may the design stands out among all the dhow stamps as showing the correct type of dhow sail, four-sided, not three, as usually depicted.
