She was built as a “new standard packet” and built on the River (Thames , built by Marmaduke Stalkart a yard on the River Thames, circa 1790
Launched under the name CARTERET (III)
The standard packet did have a tonnage 180 tons (bm), dim. 80 x 23 x 10ft.. Two decks height between the decks 6 feet.
Six cabins to carry passengers. She carried also a surgeon.
Armament 6 broadside guns – three a side.
Crew 30 men.

When the Post Office did not more want to own there own packets early in 1790, a new class of hired standard packets was built, after a standard design. The book gives five were built.
She were lightly armed but were swift sailing vessels, able to use her speed to keep out of trouble.

02 February 1811, arrived at Plymouth with the mail from Cadiz, Spain.
04 January 1813 arrived at Falmouth under command of Capt. Davey with the mail from Corunna after a passage of 5 days.
Given by Mr. Benyon 25 October 1813 she sailed from Falmouth with mail for Suriname.
Till 1820 mentioned in Lloyds Register under command of Capt. Davey.
