Alvand Class

By Mr. Mario Rosner is given that the vessels depict on this stamp are units of the Alvand Class of the Iranian Navy, and I agree with this identification.
Who is who on the stamp is not possible to identify. Four of this class were built in Great Britain of which one was lost ( SAHAND ex FARAMARZ) on 19 April 1988 due to US missiles attack.

The lead vessel of this class is the ALVAND (71).

She was ordered on 25 August 1966.
Built as a frigate under yard No 1080 by Vosper Thornycroft, Woolson, Great Britain for the Iranian Navy.
25 July 1968 launched as the SAAM (DE 12) the first unit of the Saam Class of which 4 were built.
Named after a characters from Ferdowsi’s Shahnamch
Displacement 1.250 tons standard, 1.540 tons full load. Dim. 94.5 x 11.07 x 3.25m. (draught), length bpp. 88.4m.
Powered: GODOG, two Rolls-Royce Olympus TM-3A gas turbines, 46.000 hp. Two Paxman 16-cyl Ventura diesels for cruising, 3.800bhp. Twin shafts, speed 40 knots on turbines, on diesels 17 knots.
Range 5.000 miles by 15 knots.
Armament: 1 -.45 inch Vickers gun, 2 – 36mm Oerlikons. 1 – quintuple Sea Killer launcher and 1 triple Seacat launcher. 1 – Limbo 3-barrel A/S mortar when built.
Crew 135.
20 May 1971 completed.

1985 After the Islamic Revolution renamed in ALVAND (71), named after a mountain in Iran.
It is given that the Sea Killer and Seacat missiles have been replaced by missiles manufactured in China.

2008 Still in service by the Iranian Navy.

The other two are, with the same details as the ALVAND, and were subcontracted to Vickers by Vosper.

ALBORZ.
25 August 1966 ordered.
03 March 1968 laid down under yard No 1080 by Vickers at Newcastle.
25 July 1968 launched as the ZAAL.
01 March 1971 in service.

1985 Renamed in ALBORZ (72).
2008 Still in service.

SABALAN.
25 August 1966 ordered.
10 December 1967 laid down by Vickers at Barrow.
04 March 1969 launched as RASTAM.
28 February 1972 in service.

1985 Renamed in SABALAN.
19 April 1988 severe damaged by a US missiles attack, but it looks she is repaired in Iran, but if she is full operational is not known.
2008 Still in service.
