LIVERPOOL II whaler

The LIVERPOOL (II) was built in 1828 at Medford, Mass. As a merchant vessel. After 16th years in the merchant service was she bought in 1844 by Thomas Willcox at New Bedford. USA.
He bought her from New York.
Ship rigged, 428 tons.

Fitted out as a whaler, and her first voyage as a whaler was under command of Capt. Joseph Willcox, she sailed from New Bedford on 27 June 1844 for the whaling grounds of the NW coast. She returned on 23 June 1847 with on board 90 barrels sperm oil, 1.910 barrels of whale oil and 6.060 lbs. bone.
During this voyage she visited in 1844 Apia, Samoa most probably for provision or fresh water.

Her second voyage was under command of Capt. West for the whaling grounds of the Indian Ocean and N.W. coast. She sailed from her homeport on 03 October 1847, and returned in her homeport on 12 April 1851, with 27 barrels sperm oil, 4.043 barrels whale oil, during her voyage she sent already with a other ship home 500 barrels whale oil and 34.793 lbs. bone.

Her third and last voyage as a whaler was under command of Capt. W.J.Swift for the whaling grounds of the North Pacific. She sailed from her homeport on 18 November 1851.
During the voyage she sent home 375 barrels whale oil and 35.000 lbs. bone.
20 July 1853 she wrecked in the Behring Strait, managed to get in St Lawrence Bay and was condemned where she was sold, most probably for her whale oil still on board.
