MINI LAGOON

Built as a cargo vessel under yard No 506 by the Hakodate Dock Co., Muroran, Japan for the Elmini Lagoon Inc., Piraeus, Greece.
Launched under the name MINI LAGOON. She was one of many vessels of the same type.
Tonnage 1.591 grt., 1.242 net, 3.115 dwt., dim. 214.10 x 50.3 x 16.3ft (draught).
Powered by two Daihatsu diesels, 1.500 bhp., speed 10.5 knots. Twin propellers.
The type got a large hold, and she was also suitable to carry containers.
One crane with a lifting power of 18 tons.
1972 Delivered to owners.

Strange looking vessels, more like a landing craft. When you did pass one fully loaded during bad weather only the crane and the wheelhouse were visible, while seas were running over deck and hatch.

1993 Sold to United States Shipbreakers by her first owner, and scrapped, before she was laid up at New Orleans from 01 November 1981 till sold to the scrap-yard.

She was the first vessel which berthed on the new Assu quay at Savaii, Samoa I Sisifo, she is seen berthing alongside the quay in a very light or ballast condition.
