Cable ship built 1951 Ch de Normandie, Grand-Quevilly. Engined by Soc. Aonyme des Chant. De St Nazaire, Penhoet. 2248Gt 713nt. D280’1”x41’4”x16’10”. Steam turbines. 15knts. Bunker cap 553tn. Two decks, three hatchways and three holds. Reg at Toulon, call letters FNVL.

Built as a cable ship under yard No L12 by Chantiers de Normandie, Grand Queville for the French Government, and managed by the French Post.
Launched under the name AMPERE.
Tonnage 2.248 grt, 713 net, 1.568 dwt., dim. 91.13 x 12.61 x 4.91m. (draught), length bpp. 85.4m.
Two steam turbines 2.500 hp. coupled to two pitch propellers, speed 15 knots.
Three cable tanks of 2.500 and two of 6.000 cubic feet.
1951 Completed based at La Seyne sur Mer, France.

Cable ship built for the maintenance of the French Atlantic cables.
1956 Laid the coastal cable between Qelibia and Bou Ficha in Tunisia, and between Denmark and the Netherlands.
1957 Cable between Marseille and Algeria.
1958 TAT 2 French shore ends, and Sardinia and Corsica, two power cables.
1961 Laid two power cables between UK and France.

She was kept in service till 1983.
It was intended to preserve her as a Telecommunications Museum at La Seyne sur Mer, but this idea was
abandoned.
18 December 1984 sold to Spanish breakers.
12 February 1985 left La Seyne sur Mer for the breakers yard in Spain.

Lloyds Register deleted her in 1982.
