Sharjah's 5 n.p. stamp depicting an "early merchantman" has now been traced to its source, a double-spread picture of a carrack of the 14th century drawn by Biom Landstrom and appearing on pages 92-93 of his book "The Ship". Owing to the small area of the stamp some of the detail has obviously had to be omitted, but there can be no doubt that the stamp designer has copied this picture for the Sharjah stamp.
