PRESIDENTE RIVERA (II)

The stamp gives R.O.U. PTE RIVERA but not any ship with that name has sailed under Uruguayan flag. There were at least two ships named PRESIDENTE RIVERA, one built in 1971 a other 1981 and a photo in Marine News 2000 page 295of the latter one depict the same vessel as on the stamp. That we can be sure PRESIDENTE RIVERA (II) is depict on the stamp.

Built as a tanker under yard no 316 by the Uddevallavarvet AB at Uddevalla, Sweden for Vinstra Shipping Co. (Pte) Ltd, Norse Management Co. (Pte) Ltd., Singapore.
17 Nov. 1980 keel laid down.
04 April 1981 launched under the name VIKING HARRIER.
Tonnage 42.235 gross, 33.522 net, 81.279 dwt., dim. 22845 x 42.35 x 19.41m.
Powered by a 2 SA 6 cyl. oil engine 6L80GFCA, manufactured by the shipbuilder, 18.500 bhp. 13.608 kW., speed 15 knots.
Two decks, 13 loading tanks, fuel capacity 4.156 ton, ballast 38.784 tons, fresh water 314 tons.
01 July 1981 delivered to owners.

1988 Sold by New Harrier Shipping Co. S.A. Panama to Govt. of Oriental Rep. Of Uruguay, Uruguay, renamed PRESIDENTE RIVERA, homeport Montevideo.

On a voyage from Madra de Deus to New York, she went aground on 24 June 1989 in the Delaware River. The next day refloated, but there was substantial oil pollution.
1999 Sold to Caribbean King Corporation, Panama, managed by Antares Naviera SA, Argentina, renamed SANTA CRUZ I. Homeport Panama. IMO No. 7826831 Call sign 3FUV9

Sept. 2001 she was disabled with rudder trouble south of Cape Horn laden with 90.000 tons crude oil.

2003 Sold to unspecified breakers and last reported sailing from Fujairah Anchorage 05 May 2003.
June 2003 broken up in China.
