Built as an escort corvette under yard No. 1240 by Harland & Wolff Ltd. at Belfast, Ireland for the Royal Navy.
21 June 1943 keel laid down.
08 Feb. 1944 launched under the name HMS RISING CASTLE (K.398) on of the Castle Class.
During construction transferred to the Canadian Navy and renamed HMCS ARNPRIOR. (K.494)
Displacement 1.060 tons, 1.590 tons full load. Dim. 251.8 x 36.7 x 10ft. (draught).
Powered by one triple expansion steam engine 2.750 ihp., speed 16½ knots, one screw, two boilers.
Bunkers maximum 480 tons, range 9.500 miles by 10 knots.
Armament 1 – 4 inch, 6 – 20mm AA and 1 – A/S mortar.
Crew 120 men.
08 June 1944 commissioned.

19 August 1944 sailed with convoy ON 249 of 153 ships, from Londonderry to New York as escort vessel.
02 Sept. 1944 the convoy arrived safely with not a single ship lost. ON 249 was the largest of the convoy’s; mostly a convoy’s average 50 merchant vessels and 8 escorts
14 March 1946 decommissioned at Halifax.

05 Sept. 1946 sold to Uruguay and renamed MONTEVIDEO (PFI)
Armament given in Jane’s 1975/76.
1 – 3 inch, 2 – 40mm. AA, 4 – 20mm. AA, A/S weapons Hedgehog 4 DCT, 1 DCR.
Crew 90.
Used by the Uruguayan navy as training vessel.
1975 Decommissioned.
