Post by shipstamps » Thu Oct 16, 2008 11:28 pm

Built in 1882 by Stabilimenti Technical Triestino, Italy for the Turkish Government.
Because of problems with the contract the yard offered the ship to foreign navies, and Uruguay bought the ship after some alterations for £21.000 sterling.
Iron hull, displacement 263.27 ton, dim. 39 x 6.20 x 2.72m
Armament 2 Krupp 12 cm guns and 2 Gardens 13 mm guns.
Commissioned December 1884.

Used in the Uruguayan navy as a gunboat.
During the revolutionary movement it was captured on 15 August 1897, and she was brought to Zarate, Argentina, were the Argentinean Government took her.
After some negotiations she was returned to the Uruguayan Government, and towed by the gunboat GENERAL SUAREZ back to Montevideo.
Partly disarmed, she stayed there till 1899, when she was deleted from the navy list.
On Uruguay 1997 6p sg 2392.
